Assignment #5 – Bargain hunting, <$15 bottles Who doesn’t like a good bargain? Wine, like all other consumer products, have hidden gems that are ridiculously low priced but still a great product. Find these gems require lots of trial and error where you may run into a lot more duds than keepers. So the aim…

My first stop https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_27703/wyndham-estate-bin-555-shiraz
I drank tons of it in my younger days

I’ve had good experience of the White Label Metala in the 2010 vintage. Might try the current vintage and see how it goes:

@SammyLee Interesting. I’ve never tried that just from a price snob point of view.
This is another one especially after what Lars was saying about Tahbilk Marsanne vines

@petertan I was actually looking for that Tahblik Marsanne yesterday at my local store but didn’t find it. Will try again tonight at a different store.

I found that one at Vintage Cellars before the Weird Whites night but didn’t buy it cos it was ridiculously cheap.
But there was only one bottle of it.
Might be hard to find!

@SammyLee

Strategy was to scan through dan’s <$15 section and choose highest rated and most interesting ones

Haha, nice start @petertan!

I’ve had good experiences with St Hallet shirazs but haven’t tried this one:

Good opportunity to taste for the assignment.

@SammyLee
Yea I was gonna with with the big names (Lehman, St Hallet, De Bortoli) but then saw that there were weird ones (grenache, malbec etc.) so decided to just pick the highest rated of them.
The Ilico is a Montepulciano varietal which I have never heard of much less can pronounce properly

Mind you I was into the reds so much, completely forgot to scavenge the white section

My first submission for this assignment is up. A pretty good one too!

@SammyLee
Nice one, I find Wynns stuff to generally all be really solid performers but lack a bit of wow factor for me. For $14 though that sounds like cracker value. My lineup if you wanted a better (unfiltered) look than on Instagram
